I can't say from personal experience .... the only ones I've ever had my hands on are pre 81 .... I have read comments on various forums that indicate the difference is such that neither can be modified easily to be used in the ones they aren't designed for .... as part of my search for an aftermarket source, I read such statements that go back to the late '90's .... I still find it hard to believe that there isn't such a source
