I've never had my hands on a Green River but have read a good bit about them .... many rode in chuck wagons
Well, I'll tell ya. I have many expensive Japanese kitchen knives, some costing over $200 because that is what I was into when I did fancy knife work in my kitchen but when you get right down to it, at the end of the day, these Green Rivers are all that you really need, because they will get the job done as they have proven since early 1800.

Some of those brought back memories.

I have the same knife as the one on the bottom. I received it as a gift for my year as hunting chairman for the gun club in Hawaii on the base at Kaneohe Bay air station. Still sharp.

Up until just last deer season that was my only ,go to, knife for field dressing deer, cleaning rabbits and birds. It has been a great companion ever since the first day I bought it back in the 70's. The top one was my Dad's so after he passed, Mom past it onto me.

Green Rivers were made by Russel who still makes em.
This was a blade only thing now shod in sheds.

Maybe a more modern steel but still a great slicer and camp knife capable of skinning .
