SOG Tactical Throwing Tomahawk

Post by PT7 » Tue Jan 28, 2020 6:53 pm

I've been looking quite a while for a good throwing axe or tomahawk. Last month got a Cabelas gift card for my birthday, and with that $$ in my wallet, took up the search again and picked up a new SOG tomahawk today. I usually visit three outdoor shooting ranges, weather permitting, to shoot my muzzleloader pistol. Plan to learn how to throw this tomahawk as a new-to-me sport this year, so it will go with me wherever/whenever I shoot my Trapper.

Other than the SOG, I also handled a CRKT Woods Chogan T-Hawk today. Great-looking tomahawk head with an exceptionally beautiful 19" Tennessee hickory wood handle. I was really tempted in getting the hickory furniture. But it was too heavy (weight at 33-1/4 oz), and I'm pretty sure that sooner or later I'd have a broken wood handle.

A few stats on the SOG tomahawk, followed by some pics I took.
~~Blade length is 2-3/4"
~~OAL is 15-3/4"
~~Weighs 24 oz
~~Blade is 420 stainless steel
~~Handle is fiberglass-reinforced nylon
~~Nylon sheath for belt carry
~~Can use as a hammer with the flat head side checkering as guide
~~Regular axe for smaller wood chopping. Perfect for dead branch clean-up in my backyard.

Looking forward to throwing this addition to my other "things with an edge." :D

On the news this morning was a report of a Restaurant in L.A. that features Ax Throwing Bays. Can't remember the name. Edit: "Mo's House of Axe"
I guess the idea is all over the country right now.
Looking saw a Laser Tag/Ax Throwing party offered.
I have 8 or so clevers ranging in size. I often thought about throwing those.

There is a facility only one mile from me called "Timber Axe Throwing ". Been meaning to try it. Have been in there, it's a really nice place!
Wish I knew how to post the link, but you can Google the name. It's in Hendersonville, NC

I've got a SOG TOMAHAWK that's the survivival model. It's not ment as a throwing Hawk, but it does real well. I just have to remember to take the flint rod out of the handle prior to throwing, or it might break.
