I have an air pistol for target practice and rodent control. It pumps up to about 600 FPS (correction), which is in the neighborhood of a .38. But, it does not have the cross section. Yet, it should do some damage on rodents. Plus, the rounds are cheap to shoot. I can even shoot it in city limits without much of an issue. For $50, I have no complaints.

Thank you for your report RED! and thank you once again NCG. Was a comforting surprise when I returned home, to see these posts.
Had to go back to Wally World today to return an item I purchased yesterday. Before leaving, I thought; what the heck, $60.00 is not going to affect me, so I got one. Worth the nostalgia even if it became a wall ornament.
I was actually kinda surprised when the associate took one out of the box for me. Was better looking and feeling than I was expecting! Best pellets I could find for now are Gamo TS-10, 10.49 gr. I really don't foresee shooting BB's.
BTW, NCG, guess I'm i bit ignorant, but what is fpe?

As noted by our Mistered, yes, foot pounds of energy. In some European countries and even Canada, the foot pounds of energy an airgun produces determines whether you will need a license to own it or the type of license needed to own it.

In the airgun world, 20 fpe is considered seriously powerful. These are considered powerful enough for larger animals like raccoons and woodchucks and routinely used for that kind of hunting.

It's all relative, of course. Even a "magnum" springer or PCP airgun at 20 fpe can't hold a candle to even the humble 22 LR CB cartridge that uses no powder, just the primer to push the bullet. Even that wimpy 22 LR round gets you 40 fpe. A standard velocity 22 LR round gets up around 115-120 fpe.

Mark: For a 100% improvement of your front sight w/ zero effort and no cost, try this: Snip a common straight pin in half, add a drop of Elmers and push it through the minature hole in the sight. In less than a minute you'll have an easy-to-see "silver bead" that works perfectly with the adjustable rear sight. Happy plinking!

Thanks for the tip RED. I did notice the hole in the front site, but had not thought of doing that! :)
