They're just made better and turn out a better round.
This is true.

If you ever have a chance to look at a Redding die the machining is excellent, the threads are cut to exacting size with little to no movement.

This is NOT a condemnation of RCBS or Lee products. They are well made and will load excellent ammo with few complaints from any user.

Like anything there are always going to be examples of products that are on the 'high end'. In some cases the high end is only marginally better than say the same item from a well known, popular brand that is half the price and sometimes the high end is dramatically better.

I have used RCBS & Lee products all my reloading 'life' with NO complaints. However because I am shooting .30-30 considerably more and am wanting possibly a bit better loaded round I am considering UPGRADING to a set of Redding (or Forster) benchrest style dies that have the follower sleeve that supports the bullet during the seating process. The ammo quality may only be minimally better but I really like this style of die.

I will probably look at Ebay for a set of used dies however I may be able to get for say a similar price to new RCBS or maybe a bit more. This way I am economizing yet getting the dies I want.

Do the Redding dies of which y'all write have a micrometer adjustment? I saw a set which did have that type of adjustment. They were 4 times the price of the Lee.

I have a Redding .223 with the micrometer and a Hornady 30-30 die.

.......... I personally would buy Redding Precision dies for all my calibers if I had the money. They're worth the difference in price in my opinion
What makes the Redding worth the extra money?
They're just made better and turn out a better round. I use them for 25-06 and .280.
Jake, you use any of that 25-06 gear I sent you yet?

Agreed Shakey Jake. I have used Redding dies for years and love them. Never had an issue and spot on accurate.

I use Hornady for 9 mm, .357 and 45 ACP and have never had any issues. I like the design guiding the bullet in the seating step. I also like their locking ring design and do not care for the Lee rings on the FCD so I have replaced them with Hornady.

There is probably no real difference between brands and paying more doesn't mean you will get something that is better. Even the higher priced dies will occasionally ship one out of tolerance.

I load on a single stage Rock Chucker and have no experience with multi stage presses.

Sure do and thanks! I've loaded up several 25-06 with what you sent.

Yes, mine do. I also purchased the micro adjustment for my Hornady dies. They do make a difference when dialing in OAL.
