the mold (C460-429-RF-BA2-106) seems to be very cool...

do you think that the gas check is important, in 45-70, allows it to gain in velocity ?
I know that on 357 magnum for example, it's essential, but on the 45-70, I do not know...

My barrel slugs exactly .458, but the .460 bullets work fine. I cast with fairly soft lead (cowboy action range scrap) and powder coat everything, so I don't use gas checks. I rarely load anything over 1200fps.
