i have seen on the web mold for 45-70 caliber in hollow point version, like lyman 457122 330 gr.
but i never seen a 405 Gr type lyman 457193 , but in hollow point ...
another mold builder sale that ? if no , is there a reason for that ?
impossible, not efficient, ....?
Also, qhat is the main use of hollow point bullet vs a fp ?

Apologize if the question is stupid

Aside from the original intent being they have greater expansion capability they are 'technically' more accurate due to most of the weight of the bullet toward the rear.
Opinions and range reports vary.

.460 cast is all I shoot in my Marlin 1895g. It's very accurate with them too.

I have a NOE 405 WFP it throws 370gr as a HP. my marlin loves them, works well on game as well.

I have not found sizing to be necessarily. My Lee mold drops them around 458 and they are 460 after powder coating. They chamber and shoot great for me.

interesting !
do you have take mesure of barrel before ?, is it necessary, or direct test chamber ?
the mold (C460-429-RF-BA2-106) seems to be very cool...

do you think that the gas check is important, in 45-70, allows it to gain in velocity ?
I know that on 357 magnum for example, it's essential, but on the 45-70, I do not know...
thanks, gahenryfan !

A couple of NOE HP moulds
Top is for the 45/70, bottom 375H&H
Image
The 45/70 mould is a massive HP removes over 30gr
Image

Not a great picture but does give some idea of accuracy when you find a load the rifle likes, left is 375H&H 1900fps at 100y, right is 45/70 1600fps 50y
Image

Like I said they work on game as well.
Not a big sambar but would still have been pushing 600lb, one 45HP through the ribs at just under 100y. 45cal entry 1.5" exit and went around 30y before falling over
