Re: The 38-55
It is a similarly configured cartridge in that it is relatively long, tapered and rimmed, and
Will 'physically' load the same as .45-70.

Straight wall case Forty and easy to load for. I have 4 38-55 rifles and Its probably my favorite rifle round. Its easy on the shoulder and fun to plink with or you can load it up and hunt with it. I mainly use gas check lead bullets in mine but there is places who also use the tapered base lead bullets. Are you thinking of getting one ? Maybe a Henry?

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

As an aside, Sportsman's Warehouse is showing the Henry 38-55 as a product they carry (listing says "temporarily sold out").

Re: The 38-55
Has anyone tried these for loading their 38-55? I wanted to know what folks thought about them that have tried them. Henry Tech support informed the their groove diameter in the Cowboy Carbine (Sounds way cooler that “side gate”) is .376. I was thinking about ordering some of these bullets. I was gonna load with trail boss for plinking with the kids, and H4198 to sight it in with Hunting rounds.

By the way, I’ve considered molding my own but, am not interested in handling and smelting lead, and barely can find the time to reload. I don’t want to turn fun things into work for me.

Re: The 38-55
Ive not used that brand but have looked at trying them more than once. I still have some beveled base 245 grain bullets that a caster I knew made for me quite awhile ago. You might also try Master Cast as I think there a little cheaper and have a beveled base rather than the gas check base.
