Load development 32S&WL in BBS
Load development 32S&WL in BBS
Tried out a few loads today in my 327FM.
Lee 90gr SWC TL with unique in 32s&wl brass.
Only testing at 30y as I wanted to check velocity as much as accuracy.
2.8gr 834fps
3.0gr 909fps
3.2gr 911fps
3.4gr 1012fps
3.6gr 1142fps
3.8gr 1156fps
4.0gr 1233fps
I have about 300 32swl cases that are sitting around so thought I might as well work up a plinking and small game load.
Will probably play around a bit more with the 3.4gr load it is still subsonic and noticibly quiter than 3.6gr and above. It was also a single hole for 5 shots. Only load that was much over a inch was the 2.8gr and probably attribute it to velocity variation as the load wasnt consistent.
Will have a look when I clean to see how they went for leading but I didnt see any decrease in accuracy as I was testing.
Bullets were shot unsized and tumble lubed as I want a nice easy cheap load. Doesnt get much easier than cast, lube and load and at only 90gr lead and 3.4gr powder cheap shooting.
Edit:
Measured the 3.4 gr group, 5 shots 0.67" at 30y.

3.4 does look good .... I found the speed variation between the .2 gr increases to be interesting

Re: Load development 32S&WL 32H&R 327FM in BBS
With my computer crash I lost most of load development data. Luckily I had posted my 327 data in a thread on here.
Revisited 296 with 100gr xtp with similar results
12.9gr 1753fps 5 shots 1.75" @ 50y
13.2gr 5 shots 0.99" @ 50y
Shooting in between rain and snow and crohny got a little damp and stopped working so no velocity on the 13.2 gr.
Still down of the AE 100gr factory loads that are running over 2000fps but it shoots 2-3" at best.
Tried some loads with power pistol worked up to alliants 8.6gr max
8.0gr 1907 fps
8.3gr 1915fps
8.6 gr 1959fps
Accuracy was non existant 4-6" for 5 shots.
For a bit of fun tried some 60gr xtp with power pistol. No load data so I used their max charge for 85gr xtp.
Velocity averaged 2300fps, pressures seemed very mild from primer appearance, again accuracy was non existent but to be expected given they are doing twice the speed they are designed for.
Did the same thing with 32H&R brass using 85gr max data.
1150fps and around 2" so might be worth playing around a bit more.
Using primer appearance the starting load with power pistol was similar to the max 296 load. Both don't show as much flattening as factory ammo. Most data lists 13.2gr 296 as maximum although I have seen 12.7gr listed and Speer list a compressed charge of 14.5gr 296 with their 100gr bullet and 14gr H110. Interesting considering they are the same powder but still a fair increase over other data.
I think any further development will be with 296 as the accuracy has been good.

Re: Load development 32S&WL in BBS
Tested from 13.2-14gr
13.2 1751fps 1.56"
13.4 1743fps 0.97"
13.6 1787fps 1.17"
13.8 1805fps 1.71"
14.0 1872fps 2.20"
Still no where near the 2050fps of factory ammo but going by primer appearance presure is similar.
Will retest the 13.8 gr load one shot tripled the group size the 14 gr load really opened up with bullet well spaced.

Re: Load development 32S&WL in BBS
220 are these figures out of a BBS rifle or perhaps the carbine?
Thanks for all the hard work and for sharing. They're impressive, especially the 13.2gr 296 Load. I have been going another direction for loading a 120gr MBC SWC using Longshot, Universal, 700x, and HS6 in Starline 327 brass. Looking for one load for both my Single 7 and my BBS Carbine. I'll post my results when it cools off enough down here in the Southeast to actually get outside to evaluate the loads.

BBS rifle, I would love a jacketed bullet heavier than 100gr to try but no one offers anything. For a cast medium game hunting round I would certainly be looking at 120gr.
Haven't had a chance to do much more testing, weather is warming up but I am flat out with work until November
