38-55 Coated Missouri Bullets
38-55 Coated Missouri Bullets
Anyone used the Hi-Tek 245 grain RNFP in their new side gate yet? I have a good supply of 2.125 Starline brass and plenty of once fired 2.080 from HSM ammo. Bullets won't be here until later next week so I'm curious as to what I'm going to deal with. Have the 36551 RCBS Cowboy dies and plenty of powder so my only concern is getting them to cycle the way I want. I know these guns are new but thought someone might have gotten started before I did.

BigAl52 might be able to comment, as he reloads, he's a fan of MBC and he has the new 38-55 as well. I've used the HyTek from MBC in my 45 Colt with great success. Keep us posted on how it goes!

Re: 38-55 Coated Missouri Bullets
OlD Syko better slug the bore. Mine is 376 in the groove. One thing about 38-55 they can be all over the place with bore diameter. Just depends on the gun maker.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: 38-55 Coated Missouri Bullets
Mine measures .3765 so the 2 1/2 thousandths over on bullet sizing should be perfect for proper obturation . My concern is with the crimp groove placement. Will it allow for proper OAL with the long or short brass. I'm hoping to use the long proper length brass.
BTW I think the variation with bore size is only going to pertain to old guns. In the past I've heard of variables from .374 to .384. No way Henry is going to put out such variables in quality.

Re: 38-55 Coated Missouri Bullets
I have a new side loader in 38-55 also. I have some old Winchester loads in the long case, and some newer Jamison loads in the short case. Haven't tried the Winchester, but the Jamison loads shoot great. I was wondering which way to go on the brass also, short or long?

Re: 38-55 Coated Missouri Bullets
I dont have the longer length to try but I dont think the longer length is going to work. Most of the over the counter 38-55 loads are in the shorter length brass.

How did the MBC Hi-Tek 245 grain RNFP work in your Henry? Are the bullets sized at .379?Old Syko wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:51 pmAnyone used the Hi-Tek 245 grain RNFP in their new side gate yet? Re: 38-55 Coated Missouri Bullets
okay. If you slug the bore and the Henry is 376 in the groove would it be best to use .377 or .379 diameter cast bullets? The MBC coated bullets are .379 I think.
