First Time Contact With RCBS

Post by Mistered » Mon Jun 10, 2019 11:36 pm

Well, in over 43 + years of reloading I emailed RCBS Customer Service for the first time about a problem - my 9mm carbide resizing die has developed 'striations' in the carbide sleeve and I can see (with a lupe) what looks like cracking in the sleeve.
I noticed this recently when the resized cases had striations all around the circumference of the brass.
This die is from 1977 so I hardly expect anything such as a replacement and I asked if they would sell me one at a discount as opposed to retail.
I'll report on what they say!

I bought one set of RCBS dies. Could not get proper neck tension or crimping pressure to keep the bullet from setting back. I called RCBS. The tech had me go through the same procedures in the instructions. I had already done this at least 4 or 5 times. Still no joy. The only solution offered was for me to mail the die set to them for inspection/repair/replacement. It was much cheaper for me to just pick up a Lee collet style crimp die. I had borrowed one from a friend, so I knew this solution worked.

He did not seem terribly interested in making me happy with my purchase. I stick to Lee dies these days.

Hope you have better luck.

I broke the pin in my universal decapping die a few months back.
I called them up to see about ordering one.
After a few minutes of discussing, figuring out which of the two models i had.
He said I get it right out to you, and it was no cost, even though I said it was most likely my own fault.
All I needed was one of the small pins, he sent the whole shaft and a half a dozen pins.

Hope you have a similar experience.

Sounds like it will be great test of whatever their notion of a "lifetime warranty" is, huh? Is there such a thing in the reloading dies world?

Look forward to hearing how this turns out, so keep us posted, Ed!

Well RCBS has my vote! Response from them:

Return the die for replacement to the address below the signature line. Thanks for contacting RCBS.

we've used RCBS dies, press, and other items since the mid '60's .... during that time, I've contacted them a few times and without exception have found their service after the sale to be outstanding

Same here. The few times I've had to contact them, the service has always been great.

Glad to see they stood behind the product. I suspected they would. Small cost to pay for the amount of good will it generates, especially in today's social media society. :D
