Starline 45-70 brass batch prepair
Yesterday, Work began on the hundred cases received a few days ago.
lube, resize, neck expansion, degrease ...
I use the LEE lube case, not too bad, but slower than a spray like the hornady one shot case lube ... We learn little by little ...
I took the lee hand press to be able to have a set of transportable tool in order to reload everywhere.
it works, but I must admit that, given the pressure that must be done with the caliber 45-70 for resizing,
it is much more comfortable with the rockchucker 4!
In fact, the little LEE press is perfect for setting up primers ...
7 ammo are ready, except crimping.
I will crimp all at the same time, at the end ...
Very quickly change the powder dosage of a metering device The perfect powder measure or other is not profitable to make 3 ammunition,
so I regret not having thought about a powder trickle, it will certainly be part of the next purchases ....
At the moment, I adjust to the dipper the load controlling on the two scales.
I have buyed scales that are not too expensive to start with, they are finally quite precise. It remains to be seen if the lifespan will be correct ...
5 to 6 different loads for 2 bullets (Sierra JHP 300 Gr + Lead casted bullet 405 Gr)
and 3 ammunition to test each time, that's a lot of measurements !
to be cool with this sort of play, i will purchase that :
Easy to add grain by grain powder on the scale !
see you soon.

Coal measure
ammo reloaded with the Sierra 300 gr JHP warheads have a length of 2.5.41 '
(COAL of 45-70 is 2.55 ')
I used a federal power shock 300 gr to adjust the length of the tool ...
I use a caliper dial because I do not want to be dependent on batteries ....
the 5 reloading range for the 300 gr bullet are completed:
41.4 gr
42
43
44
45 gr
with the IMR 4198 powder.
As I do the powder tests in my office, but my press is in the outside shop, I used small tubes to place each load of powder measured.
This could be handy, to provide a reload on the range.
we can find these tubes for 3 bucks on amazon and also a box to place 50 of these tubes.
Ammunition reloaded with casted full lead bullets seem to me more beautiful, more "historical".

Re: Starline 45-70 brass batch prepair
Looking good on the .45-70 loading!
I use same brand case lube and do the sizing/loading on my Dillon 550. Yes...you know right away if the case isn't slippery enough when you pull
that press handle down feeling it start to seize up. Stop right then and remove to spread more lube around!
Have found if I size all the brass first and then run them thru the press later for the final loading it goes much smoother.

Re: Starline 45-70 brass batch prepair
As reloading tray was'nt large as necessary for the bottom of the 45-70 round,
i need to built one express this morning...
flasks contains progressive reload powder amount for 3 round by hardness and 3 level of reloading.
when it will be the end of work , five level of charge will be ready for 3 rounds X 3 bullet brinell hardness....
simultaneously, working on grease density, adding mecanical tool oil to wax, parafin, grease, to obtain the good "softness" ...
see you soon !
