RanchRoper's Reloading Ruminations
Re: RanchRoper's Reloading Ruminations
I hope you get what you want RR. Because if you buy the 45-70 out of frustration after waiting so long for the Colt I cant help but think if the Colt came available after you bought the 45-70 that you would always still want the 45 Colt.

Keith, I think that Al has provided the most sage perspective so far on your wait for the .45 Colt. Really rung a bell for me. Maybe it would even help if you looked at only the photo you posted and let go of the web "shopping" for now.
For me, it's kind of like when I hunt in the freezer case at the market for my favorite ice cream brand and flavor. If not there, I debate and try to decide brand B, and end up taking it home. It just doesn't melt the same on the tongue and I wish I hadn't got brand B.
Best as you wait.

I am waiting confirmation it is on the shipments he has coming. If so great. If not, I am not waiting for Taylors to get one from Italy all summer. That's when plan B kicks in.

Re: RanchRoper's Reloading Ruminations
Almost a year seems like to long time to wait for a rifle, but I can't really blame the guy; he had to renew his import/export licence (he is an authorized Cimarron dealer as well as Colt and Bond Arms, and Dillon Precision as well as a gunsmith) and the rules have changed since he last did it. Longer background checks, much more paperwork, and US/Canada gov't red tape. There are more customers than just me waiting on stuff. So I will be patient awhile longer and see if I can get the actual rifle I wanted. If not....I have a plan.

Re: RanchRoper's Reloading Ruminations
I see a good selection of Sharps rifles available in Canada in 45-90/110/120. The 45-70's seem to sell fast. Not these. Obviously not a popular round and maybe not even available in factory? Is it the same case as the 45-70 just loaded different? Or altogether different?

Re: RanchRoper's Reloading Ruminations
Yup 45-90 just a longer 45-70 case takes the same bullet. 110 and 120 same deal. But I wouldnt if I was you go after any of those RR. If you decide to go with something other than your wish for the 45 Colt do the 45-70 even if you need to wait to get one
