just curious .... do you foresee settling on just loading 200 or 250 grain bullets .... or will you continue to load both .... have you found any difference in the way you have hold your sight picture when firing at a longer distance

Hmmm. Not sure. I think the 250 gr will be better in the new 1885 single shot...might get better distance.

I see on the Hodgdon site I can go to a 300gr lead bullet with 6.6 to 7.3 grains of Universal. I wonder if these would be good 1885 long rifle cartridges down a 30" barrel?

*never mind...it's a jacketed bullet which I never shoot.

I am getting soot on one side of the ejected brass. I have it with the factory ammo too but not quite as much as the reloads. I assume that is the light load doing it with not enough pressure or brass expansion? Thoughts?

I think this is not much to worry about, and light loads will make brass last longer?

Couldn't read '447's reply. RR, you have nothing to worry about. You're correct on not enough pressure[hotter load], but, you're fine. I get the same thing. No issues. Our loads are easier on the rifles and us. Accurate and having a ball.
