while as a matter of personal preference, its not a bullet I would load for use in our 45-70, I can't help but wonder what difference in construction allows Hornady's 45 Cal .458 325 gr FTX bullets (link below) to be specifically recommended for use in rifles with tubular magazines ..

The difference is that Hornady's bullet has a "gummy" tip, ie. soft rubber/plastic. The Nosler tip is hard plastic.

the tip construction would be the most logical difference .... the tip would have to be made of something soft enough to absorb the pounding of recoil and then regain its original shape

And also to avoid igniting the primer of the next round in the magazine.

Those are not for use in a tubular magazine. Single shot only.
I will contact nosler but I am planning on shooting them with one chambered and one in the tube for now. Will be my deer round.

I'm pretty sure Nosler will tell you the same thing I did, if for no other reason than liability.
Honestly, at the ranges you are talking about for a 45-70 deer round (250-300 yards max) the pointed Spitzer tip isn't going to add any benefit over the round tip.

Have not shot any yet, but a while back I picked up a box of Hornady 140 gr "LEVERevolution 357 for my BBS. Based on what you guys are saying; are these a bad idea. I know recoil is nothing like the 45-70, just wondering.....

No, the Hornady bullets are fine for tubular magazines. The tip on them is soft, so no issue. The only issue with them is that you have to use shorter brass to get them to cycle in a lever, due to the longer bullet length.
