Anyone know of someone who has or tried these in a 45-70 case?

Yes JEBar shoots them all the time in his. I have also loaded some for my All Weather but I haven't got a chance to shoot them yet. You can also get those from Shooters Pro Shop as factory seconds. That is where JEBar and I have both bought them.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

those were loaded with Nosler's max load of 51.5 gr of IMR 4198 ... standard large rifle primer (again per Nosler), I don't really believe it matters but we use CCI .... recoil not as bad as some other max loads I've tried but still too much for me to want to fire many rounds at at time .... if/when we take her hunting, its most likely the load we will use .... it doesn't take a max load to punch a hole in a target or ring a gong .... in addition I do enjoy firing it .... for a while now I've been working up a trapdoor level load .... early results weren't up to the level I want .... our 45-70 is with us on our current trip to Texas and I plan to work with our latest batch that looked good on a Chrony .... they are loaded with the same bullet pushed by 44 gr of IMR 4198 .... don't know exactly when I will be able to test them, hopefully it won't be too long

OP, are you talking about the pointy tipped 300 from Nosler, or the round tip? You don't want to use the pointy ones in a lever action tubular magazine. They're ok for single shot. Otherwise, use the round tip ones.

the Ballistic Silvertips are specifically designed for use in magazine tubes .... best place I've found to purchase them is from Shooter's Pro Shop at this link ===> http://www.shootersproshop.com/nosler-p ... -50ct.html

Right... Those ones are good. But the OP mentioned the Spitzer (pointy) tipped bullets, which are not. I think he was referring to these ones:

Those are not for use in a tubular magazine. Single shot only.
