New Years Torpedos

Post by BigAl52 » Tue Jan 01, 2019 9:21 pm

I was bored tonight so I just went to the basement and messed up my bench with some New Years torpedos. Getting ready to do some 45-70 testing when the weather will let me. Im not as tough as RR that 20 deg and 40 mph winds dont do much for me. Since Bandit put away his 444's I decided to break out the 70's.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

300 gr Nosler/Winchester Ballistic Silvertips .... also marketed as Combined Technology 300 gr Ballistic Silvertips .... they perform extremely well in our Henry 45-70

Jim
I may have a chance Saturday to be outside its supposed to be 50 here. I can tell you this right now they are all loaded with RL7. If one of these performs well I will show the pic and give you the weight of the powder used.

I have had real good luck with RL7 in 38-55 and I read about a lot of other people who use it as well. My best load to date in the CCH 45-70 is with RL7 as well. I currently have 4 different charge weights loaded up with the Nosler bullet. I was hoping to get out today but that remains in question as my wife needs my help for her business. She is about to sell it and we are trying to get some requested things taken care of.

Funny, you did the same as I, with the same components on the same day. Your crimp looks alittle light, unless you're shooting a single shot rifle. I have my reloading going out at 1775fps. That combo is very accurate for me in both of my Marlins (1895 & 1895GS) and YES, they do look like torpedos.
