No, no dirt diving done. Those that hit steel did not have much left.

Re: The wimpy 45LC no more
Sorry, I misread your post earlier. So you didn’t have success hunting with them? Did you miss or just didn’t see any deer? Do you think that crimping these to the top of the cannelure would cause over pressure with this bullet?

Re: The wimpy 45LC no more
I saw no deer when hunting with the BBS.
The bullet and reviews I linked to had no cannelure. If you are looking a the Hodgdon reloading web PDF at their JSP listed, start with the low load. I know it states to use the bottom cannelure for 1.650" COAL but the BBS might keep you from getting there. That is why I had the "fence" trimming discussion. Always start with a low load. It will keep you out of trouble. Try an COAL of 1.600" or a little less.
ETA: My bad, some of the Speer JSP's do have a cannelure.

FYI-
A great kids & plinking load for the 45 BB is to use the common 45 ACP FMJ 230g. Use the top ACP load of Unique, Bludot, Universal, etc. Here is a group at 25 yards with an RMR plated bullet over Universal:

Copied from another thread:
Pic's of Hodgdon's 2018 Annual Manual; Remember most if not all Henry's are rated for 45C Ruger pressure loads. Note barrel length, bullets & weights, COAL and pressures (PSI & CUP):
