30-30 Loads

Post by Mistered » Thu May 17, 2018 10:46 pm

These are 30-30 loaded with 12 Grains of Unique and 100 gr Hornaday short jacket bullets (Speer Plinkers are better however)
Chrono at about 1700 FPS and very accurate...
The brass is some old .32 Win Spl I reformed to 30-30. I may have mentioned this brass before. After tumbling it turned a very deep orange/yellow color and does not tarnish! Better brass in the 'old days'?

I know very little about reloading; but I do know that your bullets look good. When I had my Henry .30-30 and bought NIB ammo, some of it didn't look anywhere near as "new" as your reloads. So by what I see at least, good job! PT7

Well I have been reloading for a 'while' - and learned a few things along the way! The nice thing about reloading is you can create as 'attractive' ammo as you want - and while not appreciated by all I like my ammo to be nearly 'new' looking when I am done - and it doesn't take much more time to clean the brass to like new condition before reloading.

Nice lookin' reloads! Never have used Unique in a rifle round- burned a bunch of it in pistols.

Unfortunately some NIB ammo is pretty rough these days.

I know this is an older thread, and the loads look nice. Can you load those pointed type bullets in a tubular magazine and shoot? Curious.

as a general rule, spitzer point bullets should not be used in a tubular magazine .... I don't like them, I don't use them but for those who do, Hornady LEVERevolution bullets are an exception ====> https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/rifl ... olution#!/

So, it's safe to assume that the reloads pictured above are "flat-nosed enough" and not considered "Spitzer enough" to present a hazard in the mag tube? Assume that's so, or you all wouldn't keep cranking them out. Those are some very nice looking reloads, by the way. Looks like primo factory output to me. Almost makes me want to start thinking about considering maybe reloading some day...
