Re: Ammunition Prices On The Rise
Unfortunately we cannot bring ammo across the border. Too bad because finding Black Hills 45 Colt here is like finding gold in the Black Hills. You guys have some good ammo deals and lots of supply!

Re: Ammunition Prices On The Rise
I have seen ammo prices slowly getting lower in my neck of the woods. They seemed to have bottomed out, but hard to be sure. I can get Federal bulk 9mm for $17.50 per hundred. That's cheaper than I could get them before the last madness ensued. I have seen bullets go up some in price within the last couple months.

I am doing research but expect before next winter I will be reloading. I have thousands of rounds of empty brass now.

CT_shooter: Thanks for the links. From the youtube commenters, most indicate that PPU rounds seem as good as any other mfgr for shooting. Most comments quite positive. Couple sour ones, one commenter claimed tight fit in his lr.308 and another noted that the brass doesn't store well (corroded). Not the youtube link you shared but a related video off that page showed a 3 way comparison of .308 shots into gel blocks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQkD5ZHDGMo. PPU seems to have done well and maybe just little bit better.

BigAl52: Thank you I did not know of 'ammo seek' before. For my .30-30 needs it looks like TargetSports has the best price for PPU with the free shipping for bulk ($0.60USD/rd)

Re: Ammunition Prices On The Rise
Good thing - there are some basics you need to know and equipment to have but it doesn't need to be expensive or high capacity! A good single stage press can turn out a lot of quality ammo with some simple planning and breaking down the reloading steps into 'stages' to make the process easier and more enjoyable. I have been reloading for over 40 years and only have two single stage presses now but have my 'system' so well in place I can crank out a couple hundred rounds in an evening without a yawn!...I am doing research but expect before next winter I will be reloading.

Re: Ammunition Prices On The Rise
Much thanks for poking around guys, appreciated. As Mistered said earlier, I CHOOSE to buy and shoot that ammo. And ultimately, it is my choice. I could probably enjoy myself equally shooting 22LR at 50 yards, but 22 mag is so much more fun. And as for 17 HMR, well, now I'm hooked for life. It's so damn accurate, and repeatable accuracy to boot. It's spoiled me.
I will probably try and find a U.S. dealer that can ship here to keep the cost per round under .30 cents. The other option, is buying the CCI FMJ 20 grain ammo at my local hunting store. As I've learned from them, FMJ rounds are cheaper to produce compared to the polymer tipped rounds, so the price reflects that.
A17, 17 grain = 2650 FPS
20 grain FMJ = 2375 FPS, I'm only shooting potatoes, they don't jump around all fast, so I think I'm good.
A 50 round box of CCI FMJ This stuff:
https://static-cdn.ammunitiontogo.com/m ... 563f57.jpg
At the hunting store, they're selling 50 round boxes for
$14.99
10% off with member card
$13.50 + HST: $1.75
TOTAL: $15.25
X 4 boxes = 200 rounds for 61.02, taxes in, or .30 cents per round. Not as good as I WAS getting the A17 at the range, .28 cents per round. I don't have to purchase their ammo to shoot there, so I'll get it as cheap as I can find it, and wait for sales.

Re: Ammunition Prices On The Rise
Your thread had me curious, and I looked at the price for .17 HMR at Gander yesterday when my buddy and I were there. They have it for a little over $10 a box of 50. Regular price. Not sure why it would be so much more expensive in your neck of the woods, unless it's taxes or import tariffs.
