Big boy 45 and lead

What is the fastest I should run these without leading. I have 500 Lasercast and 250 Rimrock. No gas checks. Next time will buy coated or gas checks. Went to range and shot around a 100 at 9.5 gr unique. Spent 2 hours cleaning barrel. 7 to 8.5 doesn't do much for accuracy. 9 grains does good. 250 grain .452 lead.

Laser Cast are pretty dang hard bullets and can be run up a little without leading - I WOULDN'T exceed maybe 1400 FPS however and even with your 9.5 rains of Unique you probably are not approaching that. You said two hours to clean the barrel - were you cleaning out lead? You shouldn't' have been with the LC bullet and that load.

Leading can be caused by more things than just speed. I think I would slug the bore and see what that says. If the bullet isnt at least .001 over bore size it doesnt seal properly that can cause a leading issue. Bullet lube also will have something to do with it. Is it leading with both brands?

I shoot 6.0 Unique is all I use and can shoot 1000 rds without cleaning and normally a wet patch of Hoppe and 2 dry ones clean the bore and no leading and NO need to brush bore . And for under 100 yds it is super accurate load . Once your gun leads up you need stop shooting because you are done testing your ammo till you remove the lead in barrel .

My hunting stuff I go to 9.0 of Unique . Never shoot lead and copper in same gun . lead sticks to copper fouling fast and easy .

And that's probably my biggest mistake. I ran about 20 Hornady xtp I had loaded last year through it. The lc are hard. I never found one mushroomed. If I was casting could probably reused them. The Rimrock are bh 15 if I remember correctly. Unique done better than hs6.
Friend slugged bore and said 452 was what I needed. He shoots lots of single action matches.
