Finally got to the range

Post by 2guns » Tue Apr 03, 2018 7:09 pm

Henry 45 colt. 8.5 grains unique. Black hills brass. Rem 9.5 primer.
5 shots at 75 yards. Bought a 357 big boy steel after range trip. Had to get refund. Wouldn't close battery on any 357 bullets I had. Only 38. Bummer

It only chrono graphed 1120 fps. I would like to up the unique a grain or two but unsure of how safe the Henry is verses the Marlin and Ruger only loads. Trying to hit 1500 fps. No pressure signs and weight of rifle is not much more recoil than a 22.

This is the best shooting lever gun I own. Have to say I'm happy with the Henry rifles. I hate the 357 had issues going into battery. Henry said they had never seen one not close up on a 357. They said they had issues with 38s in them but not my issue. 45 days out on service according to technician.

The Henry is as strong as the Marlin. You wont have any issues. Not sure about the 1500fps and using Unique to achieve that. I think 2400 or HS-6 would be your friend with trying to get there. Al

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
