Re: Cast Performance Bullets
cast bullets have a large following on this forum .... will you be using them for hunting and/or punching paper .. .. cast bullets can do both and have the advantage of (usually) being cheaper than jacketed bullets .... personally, I've tried several different brands and weights .... after doing so, I am not a fan .... I'm sure others will jump in with info that will help

Re: Cast Performance Bullets
I have used them in my 38-55 with great success. There is a limited amount of jacketed bullets made for the 38-55 especially for the Marlin Cowboy as it tends to be a little oversized at .379 to .380. But I dont use them for target shooting only hunting loads. They are to pricey for me to do plinking with them . Al

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Haven't used those brands but have shot a ton(LITERALLY) of cast in 45-70. Current favorite load is a 405 Lasercast with 32 grains of IMR4198. Chugs along at at a chronoed 1350 fps. Clean and accurate from my H010.

I can remember saying I'd never own a GLOCK,never own an AR15 and never get married. I found out that never is a long, long time!
Re: Cast Performance Bullets
No experience with 45/70 but I HAVE shot LOTS of Lasercast in .38/.357/9mm & 45 ACP and they are by far the most accurate of all cast bullets I have ever shot. Hard as rocks also!Current favorite load is a 405 Lasercast

Re: Cast Performance Bullets
My .45-70 rifle is a Marlin 1895 CB (26" barrel). Like Abnermal with his .45-70 Henry, I use Oregon Trail LaserCast 405 grain bullets over 32 grs. of Accurate 4198 powder. This past weekend, I shot 3, 5 shot strings that averaged 1.5". My rifle carries a Leupold VX2 scope. I have gone as high as 36 grs of 4198 powder, but 32 grs is much more comfortable on my 75 year old shoulder. I install gas checks on the bullets. I get no leading with the GC's, without the GC's I was getting moderate leading. I have become frugal in my old age, and for the money Oregon Trail bullets are the best buy out there. I buy directly from Oregon Trail and the delivered cost of their 405 gr bullet is $.26 apiece. Midway's cost on the Performance Cast 405 bullet is $.59 apiece and that does not include Midway's delivery charge.

Pitchman,
Those are good, consistently accurate loads and at a very good price! I would stick with those.

Re: Cast Performance Bullets
Hey All, In my post of 2 days ago (1/25/18), on .45-70 hand loads using OT LaserCast bullets, I wrote that I used Accurate 4198 powder. I meant to write IMR 4198. Sorry if that mistake caused confusion.
