Just got a MagnetoSpeed Sporter. Tried it with the SP101 4" barrel. 115 grain cast w/ 6.7 grains of True Blue averaged 1228 ft/sec. It will work on the Henry carbine. Will try when I have more time.

Anyone have first hand experience with the 100gr XTP on hogs and smaller deer.
Hornady recommend a max impact velocity of 1800fps, out of a 20" rifle your probably looking at above this out to around 100y.
With the 115gr GDHP not available as a component the XTP is about the only jacketed bullet that might stand up to 327 velocities.

Re: .327 Federal Magnum Rifle Loads

Got a little bit of load testing done on the weekend.
Went with AR2205, Aussie made powder that is very easy for us to get hold of down under and 100gr XTP.
Results at 50 and MV
AE factory 2.25" 2060fps
11.5gr 2205 100gr XTP 1.75" 1442fps
12gr 2205 100gr XTP 1.65" 1534fps
12.5gr 2205 100gr XTP 1.25" 1604fps

12,5gr is compressed so no chance of reaching factory ammo velocities with the 2205. I have some 296 so will give it a run.
Rifle seems to like the XTP and groups were tightening up as velocity increased so hopefully the trend continues with 296.
I don't think there is much room to improve on factory velocities given the working pressure of the 327FM. It isn't like most handgun rounds where SAAMI specs are low to be safe in revolvers it is loaded to virtually the maximum a lever rifle can safely handle.

Tested some W296 loads today with the 100gr XTP. Accuracy was OK but disappointed in the velocity.
50y 5 shot group and ave of 5 shots for velocity
12.2gr 2.7" 1651fps
12.5gr 1.3" 1648fps
12.8gr 1.4" 1703fps
13gr 1.2" 1730fps
13.2gr 1.25" 1731fps

Fired 3 factories and 3 of the 12.5gr 2205 loads just to check the chrony was on the mark
Factory 100gr loads 2037fps
2205 load 1592fps
the 3 2205 loads went in to just over 1/2"

Just about every load I have tried has been half the size of the factory ammo but I am really struggling to get near factory velocity.
Think I can safely go another 0.2gr increase with the 296 but it still wont get me near factory velocity.

I read an article that the factory loads use a powder not available in canister equivalent, specifically WC297 and BE-88 . WC297 is a Western Powder from St Marks Powder and similar (according to the article) to 296 or H-110. BE88 is a OEM powder from Alliant that is not commercially available. I have a feeling that WC297 is different enough from 296 and H-110 to give the added velocity.
