Tired of Cranking

Post by Handloader » Thu Mar 21, 2024 9:10 am

Well, hand trimming gets real tiring when doing lots of cases. So, I came up with this rig a Variable AC transformer hooked to my drill. Then I made a fitting that fits on my case trimmer. Hooked up the drill and adjust the transformer to the correct speed. Fast and simple.

We used to use those variable transformers in the lab. Great little units.
And Kudos to you for not only finding a way to make your task less labor intensive, but for taking the time to trim straight wall cartridge brass at all.

Did a similiar thing with my trimming years ago. Not sure what cases you are trimming but not long ago I switched to the WFT line of trimmers. They work great and are easy to set. Trimming is the worst job in the reloading room I hate it. Shooting more 22 saves alot of work trimming

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I shoot a lot of .500 S&W Magnums and trim them to 1.165 which even new cases are longer. I also trim the 45/70 cases to 2.100 and I also trim an anneal as needed the 30/30 rounds. I do not trim 40cal or 9mm.
