45 colt/410 test load for large bees......
Well I have a box of .410 target loads but no .410 shotgun to shoot them in so....
I shorten the case to .45 Colt length and the shot cup just a bit shorter for wad cover. About 60 gr. of #12 shot fills the shortened cup and the powder load is the same 410 powder but reduced to 3.8 gr. instead of the 12 gr. The factory shell load was 220 gr. of #9 with the 12 gr. powder.
Will try this on a target from about 8ft. and see how it works. For a target I will make up a something of similar size and shape of the carpenter bee.
Test revolver will be my Alaskan since a short barrel works best with shot shells due to rifling spin.
Will be interesting!
Now why not just use a .45 Colt case? Well no need to waste primers for that since I had a box of 410 shells.

Well, that’s fun. I like the way you think.

Yep keeping my mind busy till Spring! To make the cover wad I take a .44 Mag case and chamfer the edge and use it as a hole punch on a piece of thin cardboard. The diameter gives a perfect sealed fit.

I am surprised you could close the cylinder, the rim on the base looks thick. It'll be interesting to see how it shoots and prints.

A bit of reflection making it look thicker. I tried it in Alaskan and a couple of my SA six shooters and it clears with room to spare.runnin n gunnin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 4:50 pmI am surprised you could close the cylinder, the rim on the base looks thick. Now it didn't seat well in my Charter Arms .45 Colt Bulldog. The bottom of case head has a slight radius in the corner and it would ride up on that.
Seats fine in the Alaskan. Now the Judge would work great if I had one.
Will see how it all works and if not I do have my Double barreled .22 Gamo air shotgun with the shot shells!

This was result of taking the guts of a .410 shot shell and loading it in a .45-70 case with a little extra shot. Impressive hit on the 2 liter!

That tool and die maker thought process never rests. You need more whiskey Forty to slow that turbine down.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Bet they'd work for those big ol nasty garden spiders too! The black & yellow ones... you have those in Virginia?

Oh yeah we have those here around September October. Now around that time you have to carry a stick or use your rifle barrel to break up those spider webs across my trails down at the range.
