Today I loaded up another 100 .223 cartridges giving my powder dispenser another run. Today’s load was 1.0 grain heavier than yesterdays, 25.5 of Varget.

I had 92 at 25.5, seven at 25.6 and one at 25.7. Yesterday was 97% perfect and today was 92%. However, if I factor RCBS’s claim the dispenser is accurate within one tenth of a grain them my accuracy is 99%. I can sure live with that. I did use the one tenth over drops but redid the two that were two tenths over. Pretty much I’m thrilled with the performance of the RCBS measure. A couple of years ago I bought the Lyman version of this measure at half the price and after using it for 10 minutes I boxed it up and took it back to Sportsman’s Warehouse. Way too much variance.

Hatch, after you get it set up & going, how long does it take to do each drop. Just curious. ( like the cat ).

I've finally got back on my bench & actually getting some loads made again. Working on the 45/70 with the new load I came up with
on my ladder loads experiment. Now loading IMR4198, 40.5 grs ( previously 41.0 ), Hornady 300 gr. JHP, Starline brass, CCI primer.
Work a while, & have to quit a while, my back & shoulder starts complaining. Getting old ain't for the squeamish. :(

I really don't shoot that much 9, and I have a fair amount of factory stuff.
But with the current uncertain times, and I didn't really have that many bullets for loading.
That's what it's about though jus because you don't need it, a heads up to others.
👍

Hatch, after you get it set up & going, how long does it take to do each drop. Just curious. ( like the cat ).
It varies a bit. From 10 seconds up to 30 but mostly on the short time end of the spread. I think that when it takes longer to dispense it’s because the scale has to re-zero itself before it starts the next load. I’ll pay more attention next time I use it to see if that’s the case. I found that while dispensing I was able to multi-task by doing other simple tasks while the powder dispensed. With the beep tone I knew when it was time to pour the charge. I felt a little weird doing this while charging cases as usually this process is so manual that it gets 100% attention. I did confirm every charge weight when returning to the scale prior to filling the case.

Also, I was loading .223 with 25 ish grains so the dispense was quicker than say a load for a 45/70 would be. I played with it at 45 grains and the difference was noticeable.

Thanks, Hatch. Appreciate the report.

This morning I saw an old friend and he says I have something you might can use. He knows I reload, said he bought these thinking he was getting some 209's for his muzzle loader. Wanted to know if I could use 'em? I said heck yeah, he just gave them to me didn't want any money.
They're magnums but heck free is free. ;) 8-)
