Silent Service
Silent Service
Anyone remember this TV Show. Its about Submarines and Torpedos. We were showing off big shells in the reloadng bench thread and I didnt want to take it off topic so I posted this here. I remember it as a kid. I always wanted to push that torpedo button.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

You bet. I am the son of a Pacific theatre bomber navigator. I grew up reading everything I could on the war. The submarine service was truly inspiring.
I can still hand draw a respectable Wahoo class boat.
30 seconds over Tokyo, Run silent run deep. All great movies.
My dad had a book, ‘One Damned Island after Another’. It told the story of the Air Force efforts across the Pacific. One of the first non school books I read.
Today, I am still a military junkie. Love the technology.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Had the honor of meeting Greg Pappy Boyington at an airshow in Broomfield. He signed his book for me Baa Baa Black Sheep. I was a WWII airplane junkie and still am. Loved the Mustang Spitfire and the Corsair. I have a Corsair photo also signed by him. P-38 was also one of my favs.

Nice. I still think the Corsair is the sexiest plane ever.

Re: Silent Service
remember the show as well .... for folks interested, the National Museum of the Pacific War located at the hometown of Admiral Nimitz in Fredericksburg, Texas is way beyond outstanding .... over the years we've been to a great many museums and it is one we would happily revisit .... can't say that about most of them ....

Have been there twice and happily second that motion. Outstanding!JEBar wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 4:18 pmNational Museum of the Pacific War[/b] located at the hometown of Admiral Nimitz in Fredericksburg, Texas is way beyond outstanding .... over the years we've been to a great many museums and it is one we would happily revisit .... can't say that about most of them .... https://www.pacwarmuseum.org/
Also the Air Force Museum in Fairfield, Ohio is outstanding as well.
Of course the Smithsonian as well.
I was working an Air Traffic Control Sector in the Washington ARTCC when someone flashed a photo. I asked who the heck they were because it was a darkened environment, and they replied they were with the Smithsonian and were doing a section on ATC. A couple months later I took my children to the Air and Space Museum and there I was. My children went to school the next day and told everyone their dad was so old he was in the Smithsonian.

Been to the Nat'l Museum of the Pacific War and the Museum of the 8th Air Force in Pooler, GA. outside of Savannah. My dad was a P51 pilot and flew numerous missions over Germany. Got 2 kills with 1 possible. AM and DFC. Had them look him up at the 8th AF museum on my visit and they had his complete (as much as possible) service record. Dad always said that the B17 guys had big stones but the submariners were men of steel.JEBar wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2020 4:18 pmremember the show as well .... for folks interested, the National Museum of the Pacific War located at the hometown of Admiral Nimitz in Fredericksburg, Texas is way beyond outstanding .... over the years we've been to a great many museums and it is one we would happily revisit .... can't say that about most of them ....

Re: Silent Service
My father was assigned as a mechanic to the USS Pampanito. It's currently docked in San Francisco and part of a museum there. I hope one day to see it myself. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=htt ... AdAAAAABA5
