Going To The Range Tomorrow

Post by Sir Henry » Thu Jan 16, 2020 8:04 pm

The outdoor range I belong to is closed tomorrow because they lost power. I’m kind of glad because the road down might be challenging with all the snow.

This past summer an indoor range opened in town and I’ve never seen it. Tomorrow might be a good time to visit it.

I’ll take two pistols. A Walther PPK and a Manurhin PP both in .22LR.

Sounds like fun. Any range time is a good time.

You never know you might like it. I have one close by here that has 100 yard indoor ranges. Price to join is way up there but if is snowy outside at least you can shoot. Think they have 50 yard also.

Never seen an indoor range that long. Usually 25 yds is the max.

Its definitely a state of the art place. But there membership reflects that also. There have several different courses of fire for pistol shooting with pop up targets ect. I havent been in there yet but a close friend of mine has used the 100 yard range several times. Hey Gene did you make it to the range?

I've stated it before, but I am lucky to have a LGS near my house that has a range. 25yd and 15 yd. I get an annual membership that allows the Pup and I to go whenever we want for $125 per year. It's not fancy. They use glorified garage door openers to run the target holders back and forth, and you sometimes have to wait a minute for the target to settle down. Having said that, they have friendly staff and it's easy to strike up a good conversation with other shooters. I've been given the opportunity to shoot quite a few new to me guns due to the generosity of a fellow shooter. I try and pay that back, whenever appropriate.

We have a new indoor range in town that is up to date with very nice equipment. The experience was not that much fun. I couldn't even transfer a cleared, open gun from my lane to the Pup's. Yearly membership would have been 4 times what I pay now.

No I didn’t make but am going tomorrow. I moved back into the house today and am still living out of boxes. My firearms are buried and I might not be able to dig them out but I’m going to the range anyway just to check it out.

We have (had) a 25 - 100 yd indoor county-run range near (1/2 hr) us that $10/hr was recently closed to the public by the newly elected sheriff. My options right now (if I wasn’t in healing mode) are a couple 25 yd ranges for $20/hr (or I can join one with no range fees for a annual fee of ~$600). One is limited to pistol calibers (I have shot pistol caliber rifles there). The other looks like I could shoot rifle calibers, but at 25 yds?

I miss the days when I could shoot off the back porch.
