Now that's thinking! I remember in Dale Earrnhart's(#3) early days, if he was having car problems, he'd tear off padding from the roll cage and throw it on the track and say "debris on the track!". Caution. Those characters!
I remember Dale racing one day and his team keyed the mic and said "Dale, we need a caution" !!

His answer was:

"I'm workin' on it"

Lol

Talk about Dale Earnhardt, he was as tough as nails. How many remember the time he flipped his car over and while he was climbing into the ambulance, he looked back and said "Hey, that thing still got all it's wheels", "Crank her over to see if she'll fire". Then walked out of the ambulance, jumped in and went back racing.

Yep, that guy was a racer! What ever it took. Hard competitor to say the least. When he went, NASCAR sort of died also.
Just my thought. I'm glad Jeff Gordon got out when he did. That dude was the real deal also. One of the hardest, finest drivers I've ever seen. Him and Rick Mears were probably the purest drivers I can think of. My opinion, of course.

Might have been Smokey Yunick. He hid gas in his Roll Bar, lol.
Another driver put a collapsible object in the tank. When NASCAR filled the tank it would only take the regulated amount. Then they would deflate the ballon type object and add a few more gallons.

NASCAR lost me years ago when they made all the cars the same. Racing isn’t racing if someone isn’t try to cheat the rules. Like when they limited the size of the fuel tank. Someone put in a 1 inch line and took the long route instead of 1/4 inch and the shortest path. That got them an extra two gallons of gas. Now that is racing.
I think it was Geoff Bodine who routed something like 20 or 30 extra feet of fuel line. Gotta admire the innovative thinking! :D

I thought, well, since the noose story was debunked by no less than the FBI, I'd take a look at the Cup Race today. Low and behold they are actually doubling down on the hoax. I can hardly believe it. What in the world are they thinking? I refuse to be lied to like this and I shut them off, probably forever.

Hey All,

The Closer!! Great job! Do it again today!

As for NASCAR changing....

I've known this song for over 50 years... This is the best version I've ever heard - save the original. It applies to America today including NASCAR.

https://youtu.be/p9lR4IFXsRw

Here are the lyrics that nail it - in my view.

Come gather 'round, people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
And you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'...

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'...

As absolutely right on today as when it was written.

Enjoy the race...

Great picture from the good old days.

By the way, wondering if Nascar is "cursed" ?

Ever since they done their fans wrong, it seems like they can't get through a Cup race without rain.
