Heck Of A Trip

Post by JEBar » Sun Sep 08, 2019 11:04 am

as many of you know, our oldest son is a Radiologist .... as this is being typed his 9 1/2 flight from JFK on Turkish Air has just landed in Istanbul, Turkey .... he'll be there for about an hour before boarding another Turkish Air flight scheduled to last 7 hr 20 min flight to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) ...total flight time 22 hrs 59 min . .... he and one of his former instructors from UNC's Medical School are paying their own way .... they will be there for 2 weeks training doctors and technicians on how to make the best use of a range of radiological equipment .... while we are happy that they are willing to go to such lengths to help people, we are also more than a bit concerned .... positive thoughts and prayers would be appreciated

Traveling out of the country anymore is not like it use to be. Nice of your sun to share his knowledge with the outside world. I hope his travels are safe to and from.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Very admirable of your son and his instructor.
Wishing them a safe and rewarding trip. Let us know how things go. That is one heck of a trip!

per FlightAware his plane should be on the ground at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania ===> https://www.google.com/maps/place/Dar+e ... 39.2083284 .... he has been on a plane for 23 of the last 26 hours .... I've never made a flight like that so I can only guess how he's doing .... no clue when we will hear from him

If smooth and little turbulence, is all one can wish for.
Don't know how I could have done it when I was a smoker. :( :)

For sure you've got the prayers, Jim. Try to relax and let it go, Dad.

You must be quite proud of your son. Reaching out (far, far out) in this way is very special.
Will look forward to hearing more about his travels and work there.

our son is on his way home .... last night he left Dar es Salaam and flew to Istanbul, Turkey .... from monitoring return on FlightAware, his 11 hr flight from Istanbul to Boston appears to be late taking off .... no clue why or even if that is the case .... he says the time he spent working with a local public hospital in Dar es Salaam went well and was highly appreciated .... he also is more than ready to get home
