Happens far more often than you hear about, we are currently in the middle of the rut for most deer species in Aus. Most deer farmers wont even go into pens or paddocks with stags at this time of the year and if they do so are armed to defend themselves.

Had another dingo attack yesterday on Fraser Island as well. About the 5th one in a couple of years, toddler has survived but injuries include a fractured skull. The dingo entered a camper to take the child.

Such a sad experience for that family. So very sad.

There's some interesting information about this incident and about general concerns in Australia about dingos in this NYTimes report. It says there are about 200 dingos (a type of wild dog) on Fraser Island, but that the animal is not native to Australia. However, it has been there for 4000 years. I had heard of recent events like this, but didn't know much more about dingos until now.
