I am not a firearms expert by any means, but when I listen to testimony by a firearms expert and hear a mistake, it makes me cringe.

I remember listening to the Trayvon Martin shooting trial (Sanford FL) a few years back and there was a guy giving testimony about Zimmerman's gun. He was suppose to be one of the leading authorities on the subject and giving his opinion of how he thought it went down, and so forth.

I think he darn near did this (court expert) for a living, but when the other lawyer asked him how many shoot outs he had been in, he said "none".

Doesn't make him any less of an expert, but somehow I don't think the testimony IMO meant quite as much after that :)
