great to hear Marine .. :D .. from looking at the weather radar, the leading edge of Michael is a few miles east of our home back in NC .... they are still calling for 3 - 5" of rain with 20 - 30 mph wind .... with the recovery from Hurricane Florence still in its early stages in many parts of our state, tropical storm force winds more rain on saturated soil are likely to topple weakened trees .... again from the weather radar and the projected path of Michael, what was its eye should pass over us where we are camped in coastal Virginia .... the forecast is calling for heavy rain/thunderstorms moving in about 5PM and continue through 1AM .... as with back home, they are calling for 3 - 5" of rain accompanied by winds up to 35 mph ....

We are supposed to get the same, moderate rain, with wind gusts in the 20 to 40 mph range. We have started to get light sprinkles off and on now. Not seeing wind yet, but expect we will see our share.

Sitting on my porch. It's raining like heck, more so than Florence. Wind gust I'd say about 30 mph. Trees swaying quite a bit. Internet spotty. Look out Jim, keep your powder dry!

per weather radar, the outer edge should reach us around 5PM, the heavy precip about 2 hours later .... it appears that the rain and wind should be on their way out around 3AM .... with our current location, I'm not too worried about the rain .... we are on high ground .... wind is a different matter with the major concern being limbs taking down power lines ....

The hard rain and high winds kicked in around five pm. Around five thirty power dropped out and the genny kicked in. We are under severe wx watch and tornado warnings. The trees are whipping around like those crazy air driven things on the used car lots... but holding on.

in southeastern VA we just heard the first clap of thunder .... temp 78 .... wind in the low 20's .... 95% chance of rain, none to speak of yet but per the radar, we are right on the edge .... they say the rain will move out around 1AM .... wind supposed to calm down around 5AM .... so far, so good

Things have calm down. Still windy, occasional gusts. Still raining. Temp has dropped about 15 degrees. Feels chilly. Lights flickering. Cable out for about 45 minutes. Hopefully the worst is over for us. Rest of you, say safe as you can.

The TV coverage shows quite a bit of damage. Hope the fatality rate stays low but looks like it may climb. Our problem with Harvey was the rain as it just didn't move quickly. Looks like this one had a lot of tidal surge and wind damage.

while Michael had weakened considerably by the time he go to us, he still packed a sufficient punch to disrupt things in southeastern VA for a long time to come .... the damage in Florida is hard to imagine, we really feel sorry for the folks down there
