Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

That would be a good starting place, Cofisher, especially for review by the elders on the Forum (I'm also one of those good 'ole folk!). But then the young'uns would miss out on some important chats and info, too.

Of course, there are oodles of recommendations on how2, when2, why2 go through this fun procedure. And also from many different sources. I asked two questions and looked at only one resource tonight.

I found a couple of time considerations as posted by the US Preventive Services Task Force. https://www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/ Here are my two questions and the answers:

What age are colonoscopies recommended?
The USPSTF says screening colonoscopies should be performed on a case-by-case basis for people between the ages of 76 and 85, and it recommends no screening for people over age 85. The benefit of early cancer detection in very old people is offset by the risk of complications.

When to get a colonoscopy age?
If your relative was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 50, you need to start screening at the age of 40. Screening for colon cancer for an average risk individual includes a colonoscopy every 10 years or a sigmoidoscopy every 5 years, in addition to a hemacult (blood in the stool) test every year.

Such is the way of it.
Interesting and valid thread, since there could be some serious issues for some folk. Better to nip at it early on.

I'm scheduled for my colonoscopy in November, what a thing to look forward to for 3 months.

Well, the deed is done. The entire procedure went very quickly. I don't think I was in the facility much over an hour. They found one polyp. Doc didn't seem too concerned about it, but will have to wait on biopsy report. The bad news is I'm now on a 3 year rotation vs 10.

Grass needs mowing, but I'll be spending the rest of the day watching Star Trek movies and maybe some Dr Who. I may even take a nap. Not used to getting up that early.

BTW, this time they gave me pictures.

I will have mercy on all of you, and not post them.
