War movies

Post by The Wiz » Sat Aug 04, 2018 2:01 am

I usually don't watch war movies but when I do it's usually WW2. I don't watch Vietnam movies because...well just because. I do watch " Green Beret " because it is so full of inaccurate tactics and BS that it's quite hilarious. Actually, while in training at Ft. Benning we ran across a filming site for the movie full of plastic barb wire and fake trees. Anyway, the point of this was I ran across a WW2 movie called " Hell is for Heros' " which I had never seen. Incredible early star power with Steve McQeen, James Colburn, Bobby Darin, Sal Mineo, Fess Parker and Bob Newhart. Realistic, bloody with some humor by Newhart. The closing scene with the burning pill box is visual stunning and erie. The director ( I forget his name but famous ) and the Cinematographer got it right. Highly recommended by a guy who does not like war movies.

That was a well-done WWII saga, very focused -- grim and stark. Another one carrying that "star power" was Harry Guardino. Always thought he was a strong actor.

its been a long time since I last watched Hell is for Heros .... I enjoy watching and rewatching most of the older war movies on every thing from the European, Indian, early American to the World Wars .... like classic Westerns, I watch them for entertainment not for history lessons .... just count the number or rounds the Duke gets out of a revolver without reloading in the dramatic end of the movie showdown in the Sons of Katie Elder .. ;) .. I like it anyway ....
