Critters: In the Creek

Post by Mags » Fri Jun 08, 2018 11:44 pm

Just for fun and interest - the local TV critters. Those in the Creek.

Beaver - busy at night with damming.
River Otter - cute and playful.
Nutria - non-native, destructive and shot on sight.
Blue Heron
White Egrit
Merganser
Mallard
Wood Duck
Canadian Goose - Nesting pair visits every spring for a month or so.
Wigeon
Fly Catcher - interesting aerial acrobats over the water in the evening.
Bull Frogs - non-native, invasive.
Sadly, no trout or other fish. Never make it up the creek from TV river, Beaver dams block the creek.

We're too far north for the Nutria and even the bullfrogs (an invasive species, here), but have all the others and more. We even have otters, which we often see in the winter fishing though holes in the ice. We live right on a lake, so seeing all these animals is wonderful. Big part of why we live, here.

Us too. Abundant diverse wildlife. Bull frogs here are also non-native. I've so updated my original post.

Love the pic! Warms me up just looking at it. We're still iced up on our lake and buried in snow, to boot.

I have not seen open water in months. Enjoy it. I am dreaming of getting my little boat out soon. I think I will trade my kayak for a pontoon. We will see.

Eastern Nebraska just had a major rain event. 4" on top of frozen ground. Flooding all over.

Spring is coming...to misquote a good line.

Thanks. Maybe gives you something to look forward to ...and I think I saw in the news you're getting another blizzard on top of what you already have.
