Twenty Five

Post by BrokenolMarine » Sat May 12, 2018 10:20 am

Today is Twenty Five years of wedded bliss for Miss T and I. Amazing.
Both of us had been married before and her mom told us both that our marriage wouldn't last a year. Guess she was wrong. Laugh
When we got married, we drove down to the courthouse and bopped into the magistrates office....
We were hot and tired, in shorts and t-shirts and asked if he had time to perform a quick wedding.

"How Quick?" he asked.

"I do, She Does, We're Done," I said. "We have both been married before and don't need anything fancy, just the certificate."

"Do you have the license?" he asked.

"Yup," I said handing him the paperwork. "If you don't mind, I have worked four straight ten hour midnight shifts, and I am tired... I'll sit."
Tina sat beside me.

He looked stunned. "If you are going to sit, then I'll sit. Do you have a witness?"

"Ah, no."

"Mary," he called. "I need you."

His secretary came in from the front office.

"Have a seat." Now she looked confused.

He cleared his throat, and took us at our word.

He looked at me.
"Do you?"
"Yup."
He looked at Tina
"Do you?"
"I do."
"Then, by the power vested in me by the Commonwealth, you're done."
"Sweet"

The secretary looked lost.

He signed the paperwork and handed us the certificate.
"You know what, that's the fasted ceremony I've ever performed, but I have a feeling this one will last."

Twenty Five years later, we are still married.
A dozen couples we know that got married after us are long divorced.
Two of our four kids have married and divorced and remarried.
:D

Well done. I found the first 25 years to be the toughest, after that smooth sailing.... :)

Congrats!

Sincere Congratulations, Marine and Miss Tina! And thanks for sharing your wedding day memories with everyone. It is quite special. I especially liked the "Sweet" celebrating your special day.

Trust the years-yet-to-come will be good and very happy for you both! :D

Congratulations. Hope you have many more. My wife and I will celebrate our 37th in July. We got married in our preachers living room on a day we just decided to go through with it. All our friends and family had doubts about it lasting because I was 12 years older than her. I think we have proven them to be wrong. Most of our friends that got married after we did are long ago divorced.

Congratulations. I too got married by a judge. I was so nervous, I kept saying " I do" every time the judge paused. Then had to be prompted by him when the right time came up. That was 47 years ago. Not bad for pulling her name out of a USO mail bag in Vietnam. Funny how love works. But again, congrats to you and Miss Tina!!!! :D

Congratulations.

My wedding was short too, but a little fancier. It took about 8 Minutes and there were 5 people there. The Preacher, 2 Witnesses (a Church official and his secretary) and the Bride and me. We are pushing 36 years together now.
