I saw this on one of the UK gun forums, and I don't know if it's one of those 'fake news' type things or if it's real. I can't believe that in the land of baseball, pitching a grenade poses such a problem? Have you guys heard anything about this, or is it just the stupid UK Press trying to fill page space?

Want to see my surprised face?
Strange decision for sure. The article states that it and land navigation will no longer be required to graduate. But will still be taught the basics. This quote made me laugh.
‘It's taking three to four times as much time ... just to qualify folks on the hand grenade course than we had designated so what is happening is it is taking away from other aspects of training.’
My take..... Here is a grenade, if you ever have to use one in combat you will probably blow yourself up. But we don’t have time to deal with that now. Just be sure you have your first aid kit with you.
Oh and you will probably get lost trying to get back to base... but if you carry your cell phone you can use google maps.
Friendly admin reminder: let's keep this one focused on the subject of military training and not get sidetracked into politics.

Perhaps they have other weapons like mini drones that are more effective?

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

The only thing is, and we've all seen the YouTube grenade fails , but you maybe don't kill yourself but take out your whole squad.
BTW, we don't even know if this is true..............

Re: US Army drops grenade throwing?
I'm guessing few people here have actually thrown a grenade because I understand the thought process they used to drop it (no pun intended). For one thing they are much heavier than a baseball and second you have to hold the lever down with your thumb and can not throw it like a baseball. It is much harder than you think to throw it far enough away that you are not in the blast area.
Besides they were never intended to be thrown but rather tossed into a pillbox or tunnel where you would be protected. I was trained on how to use them and the one time in training that I actually threw one it was over a five foot wall made of three feet of concrete. It never really added anything.
The M79 grenade launcher was much more accurate and can be shot out to several hundred yards. In Vietnam I never threw a grenade but shot the blooper hundreds of times. I loved it and shot it any chance I could find.
