The Colt Anaconda returns.....
Well it arrived from Colt Repair yesterday and the Repair Order showed that the cylinder end play was tightend up and the hammer link was replaced.
Maybe the new link lets the hammer go further back in DA mode for a stronger hit? I checked out the cylinder end play and it is at .003 based on .003 gap full forward and .006 full backwards which is the gap at rest. So will take to the range soon and run some rounds thru it and hopefully it will stay within spec. Trigger pull all feels the same.
Also on my S&W M-69 that had sudden failure to fire light strikes in DA mode... I installed the replacement longer firing pin and that should be the fix and will test that out too. So much fixin on the DA 44's !

I wonder how they tightened up the end play.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

From what I read they have a special fixture that fits inside the cylinder and using a lot of hyd. force they can stretch it a small amount and then refit it to the frame. Only expands the area that the crane shaft bottoms out on. No way to shim it so they say like a Ruger or Smith using shims.

So was it fit correctly when you first got it or did you check it then?

Yes. First things I check on all revolvers new to me is the cylinder fit and function and I would have sent it right back for that issue. I did have to send it back for rough places in the bore when I first got it and they replaced the barrel.

Id be worried about it doing that again if it was mine. Sounds to me like there is a design flaw to begin with and Im surprised there isnt more going back to Colt.

Well, my King Cobra Carry went back, before I took delivery. The cylinder did not lock up tight. I liked the trigger, so I gave it a try. So far, it has been alright. But, I may have shot about 25 rounds through it. It will probably get put in rotation this year. However, the the Rossi RP63 is up at the plate for now.

Re: The Colt Anaconda returns.....
My King Cobra Carry continues to meet my expectations. Sometimes I get lucky. It has a very crisp DA trigger, a very tight cylinder and timing, and it's very accurate. With my .357 reloads (158gr JSPs/JHPs over 13.9 gr. of H110), it's recoil is minimal.
I bought mine from Bud's Gunshop in 2020 with a lifetime warranty (just in case). Glad that, so far, it hasn't been needed. But, it's good to know that Colt's CS is responding to these issues.

Re: The Colt Anaconda returns.....
Lifetime warranty seems like a good thing. When I got my Rossi from Bud's, I got the lifetime warranty as well. Because of the cost of the firearm, I wanted to be covered, in case of a quality issue. Plus, I figure Bud’s would give it a once over, in an effort to reduce the chance of the firearm being returned for service. Yet, cost of firearm may not be much of an indicator. It cost about a 1/3 of the cost for the Colt. Granted, the trigger is no compassion. However, I did not buy it because of the trigger. I bought it, due to its cost and reputation. So far, it has delivered. But, I do like the workmanship of the Colt. It seems to handle recoil better also. Overall, I am pleased with it.
