Select states gave out DL's and picture ID's to people that had no legal standing or authorized paperwork proving who they were and that made all of our DL's questionable. The fix is some double extra extra secret knock DL that is real. So the state gave me a non real DL for the last 40 years?
This poorly run state will not take walk ins at the DMV, you must have an appointment on line. It still was a 2 hour XXXX show.
The Oregon DMV office I went to took both walk ins and appointments. Walk ins got a number and were serviced when their number came up. Those with appointments had their name called at their appointed time. First time I had ever been in a DMV office that wasn't a mostly all day affair. The whole experience was assembly line smoothness.
As far as the secret knock to add ReadID. No secret here. 15min wait for the background check through the Oregon State Police. I guess DMV gets priority over gun stores.

Re: Real ID
Made an appointment yesterday to get my enhanced ID this morning. Needed a birth certificate and valid drivers license. Had them take off the glasses restriction, kept my motorcycle endorsement and it took about 15 minutes once I hit the door. Cost $5o in the state of Michigan.

How long is it good for? Big difference from the $170 I paid here in WA.Ernie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 1:14 pmMade an appointment yesterday to get my enhanced ID this morning. Re: Real ID
In CT, the DL with Real ID expires in eight years and $96. I'm good until 2030.

Re: Real ID
Here in NY, there is a push for "upgraded" driver's licenses. I already have a passport, and I got the passport card with that, so I see no advantage to getting one of the upgraded DLs.
NY offers three versions, the standard DL, the Enhanced DL, and the Real ID. This state has a lot of roundabout ways to extract your cash, so I'm starting out distrustful, but what does any of those other forms of ID do that my passport doesn't already do?
So I'm saving the extra fees, and sticking with the standard DL.

Re: Real ID
I have a military ID, so I've never bothered with the real ID. I probably need to order a new birth certificate. I have one somewhere, but it would probably be easier to order a new one, than find the old one.

Me too. I don't even understand the need, lol. Other than traveling to another country.
