Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
I lost half of my 220 once. Got up and some of my lights were working and some not. Furnace was still working but not too well as the fan had power but only half the elements had power. Was worried that I was going to have to replace one of the main breakers but called the PUD and they had a guy out to my place within a couple of hours, he found a bad splice in one of the wires from the transformer to my outside panel. He had it fixed very quickly.
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
That was part of the longer story I didn't get into. The furnace wouldn't come on at all. The kitchen ovens fans and and cloths dryer motor could come on, but not heat. Some lights in the house were on normal (the good leg) and others lit but not at full brightness (bad leg). One by one I shut off the breakers supplying power to the 220 appliances. When I shut off power to the hot water heater the lights on the bad leg went completely off. Ah-Ha, that's when I knew I had a bad leg for sure. The good leg was cross feeding power to the bad leg through the heating elements of the hot water heater. The voltage drop across the heating elements was why the lights were dimmer on the bad leg and even working at all.dave77 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 11, 2025 3:45 pmI lost half of my 220 once. Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Electricity can be hard to figure out sometimes. When I had my horse the first winter that I put a heater in her water trough she refused to drink out of it. I did some checking and when I put one lead from my tester in the water and stuck the other end in the wet ground I got a reading of a few volts. PUD sent a guy out to look at it and he could not detect any voltage in their ground. He had a big expensive voltage tester so it was weird that my cheap $10 tester was showing a few volts and his wasn't. I had earlier tried putting one hand in the water and grabbing onto the fence with the other to get a good ground and could feel a very slight tingling just on my cuticles, he tried it after I did it first and also felt the tingle, imagine what my horse felt when her lips were in the water and she was standing in mud. What he figured out was because I'm in a small canyon and there are several very high voltage main transmission lines overhead that the PUD ground wire going to my pole was picking up a small amount of voltage from them. The solution was to get one of the adapters that allow you to use a plug with a ground in a receptacle that doesn't have a ground. Since a water trough heater has to have a ground I drove a ground rod and wired it to the adapter so it was grounded but not to the PUD's ground.
Then the only problem was convincing my horse that it was now OK to drink from the trough, took some patience and an apple held closer and closer to the water.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
46 with more rain overnight. Good! Not sure what the high will be as the weather guy is still sleeping in but probably in the 50’s somewhere. More rain expected today. Nice week ahead with sun and cool temps. Our furnace has been running in the morning for about a week now.
I’m helping my son move his travel trailer from one end of the county to the other. Nice rainy day to pack it up and then reset it up.
Sounds like camping doesn’t it?

65 at 9:30AM with a RealFeel of 61 .... 70 forecasted to be the high for today with the overnight temp dropping to 57 .... the Tropical system that started moving through yesterday left us with an inch of rain .... it is still with us and is expected to drop considerably more rain before finally moving out later today .... no further rain mentioned in the long range forecast through the next 10 days

My laptop has an emoji button (dual function with F2). A long time ago before the migration, those emojis worked and then one day they didn't. After the migration, they are now working again.Vaquero wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 12:08 pmYep.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Sun Oct 12, 2025 9:41 am46 with more rain overnight. Good!
