I used to own an Opel GT .... 4-speed floor shift .... under the carpet, just to the left of the clutch pedal was hidden compression switch .... when you'd depress and release it, the windshield wipers would make one swipe .... press and hold it, the wipers would swipe as window washing fluid sprayed on the window .... there was so little space in that area of the floorboard, it was easy to accidentally to hit it while shifting gears .... I used to have fun with it

I seem to recall that the Mustang I had, had a similar thing.
Best I remember though it weren't under the mat, but
it hung down from under the dash.
Like you I would mess with friends.
I would tell them that the wipers had a mind of their own.
Dang I had forgotten all about that till I saw your post JEB.

I had a blue 1972 Opel GT back in 1973. After installing fat Ansen slot wheels and tires and header with side pipe exhaust
looked like a little Corvette!

Think I paid 2300 for it and it only had 4000 miles on it. First owner traded it in for a Chevy Nova.

I had wanted a Opel GT in my younger days but always ended up with MG's.

My (nearly) new Mazda 6 has a manual. I wanted it that way so no one else could drive it! Every new car I purchased since 1978 my wife managed to finagle away. I always drove used cars and trucks. I purposefully got the manual so she wouldn't drive it!
