Cherry guns again
Cherry guns again
It's that time of year again, get to listen to the cherry guns 24/7 for about a month. Hard to get used to them, in the house it sounds like someone slamming a car door in my driveway, outside it's loud enough to be annoying especially since they go off about every minute.
Can't blame them though, 2 years ago they had a lousy harvest because of the extreme early heat. Last year the harvest was short and about the same time as California's harvest instead of after it so the prices stayed pretty low. They say they should have a good crop this year.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Happy to hear the Wenatchee crop is doing well. Just heard on the news yesterday the Greenbluff (near Spokane) crop of cherries and peaches is a total wipeout. The sub zero week we had in early December is the cause. According to the report the trees are not quite fully dormant in early December causing the problem.

Actually called propane cannons, we call them cherry guns around here because they're really only used in the cherry orchards.

Thanks for posting that. I had no idea what a cherry gun was.dave77 wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 1:35 pmActually called propane cannons, we call them cherry guns around here because they're really only used in the cherry orchards.

I could use one of those in the springtime to chase the geese from around our pond.

Thanks. I thought that is what they are. But had never heard them called that. Propane cannons are used around us to drive the Canadian Geese out of the farm fields.dave77 wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2024 1:35 pmActually called propane cannons, we call them cherry guns around here because they're really only used in the cherry orchards.

Re: Cherry guns again
I also really did not know what they were. We don't have any around here. But I sure could have used one, lol. We had 1 real nice Cherry Tree. Just when the Cherries were real nice and ready to be picked, the crows would pick it clean within 24 hours. I tried fake snakes in the tree, but it did not phase them one bit. This happened year after year. But very strangely, one crop they did not touch. We finally had plenty of great delicious Cherries and the strange part was that it was the last crop before the tree died. The Cherries were great and we had no problems with them. But why did that happen?

Out in Arkansas they use carbide cannons to keep birds off the soybean fields.
