Mossberg Shot Guns

Saturday I was out shooting skeet with friends, one of them had a Mossberg 88, about a hour into our shooting, he fired of a couple of shells and as he was racking it for the third shot at the clays the entire barrel fell off, looked like the weld at the end of the barrel had failed.

Has anyone else had this issue with Mossberg's?

Thanks in advance for any experience with issues like this.

I have never had this issue, but most of my experience has been with the 500 series in the Corps or later in LE.. They took loads of abuse and like a timex, kept on ticking.

My only Mossberg is a 500, and I have never even handled an 88.
Sorry no help here.

The Mossberg 88 is essentially the same as a 500 and with both there is no 'weld' at either 'end' of the barrel - muzzle or breech.
There is a barrel mounting tab that is silver soldered about halfway on the barrel where it connects to the load/slide tube with a finger screw but I have NEVER seen one of these fall off. Is this what failed?

I have a Maverick which is the same thing, purchased it used and never had an issue with it.

Yeah it appears like the weld at the front broke, he's contacting Mossberg to see whet they can do for him.

Except that the 88 is a Maverick, which is Mossbergs Turkish made bottom end product. The 500 series are made in the USA.
