Remington 870's

Post by bandit1250 » Wed Oct 24, 2018 5:42 pm

I may have posted a picture of my 870 Remington shot guns some where but lost the pictures with photobucket and their dumb stuff. I will put up my new pictures for members and there is at least one no one has seen yet. First up is a "corn cob" 12 ga. made in '55 with a barrel I just found at a gun show a couple months back. I had no idea I would find one this fast. A NOS 26" improved cylinder no vent rib and 2 3/4" chamber in the box new. Been a while since they made plain barrels with the 2 3/4" chamber. The shot gun in front is a '53 corn cob 28" full choke 20 ga. 2 3/4" chamber plain barrel. This gun is like new. I did swap a 12 ga. stock that had a piece of the toe chipped off and cut it to fit me when hunting and fit a Marlin rifle pad to it. I bought this jewel of a 870 for $199 at my LGS. This may sound funny but I wouldn't take $500 for that shotgun. I love the weight and handling and it patterns tight and right where I put the bead.

The next two is my 870 TC Trap. I have never fired this one and sold it to a friend who never fired it so I bought it back. I will shoot it this time around. It has 2 34" chamber and 30" barrel with screw in type chokes. The front one is a '62 with 30" full choke plain barrel. I bought this from a friend in Pa. last January and never fired it yet. I will fire it soon to check the pattern on it. This 870 is near the condition of the 20 ga.

The last picture is a 870 Express magnum 24" barrel 3" chamber with screw in chokes. I got a bag full of chokes with this one. Another LGS buy at $200.

Nice!
I will forever regret having to pass on that 870 last year. It was a pretty little 20 ga LW Special, with an "English" stock.
The new ones just aren't the same...

I'm really enjoying your posting about these old Remintons. Your knowledge of these is fantastic. Thank-you so much for sharing.

It's been so many, many years since I've shouldered a shotgun, but in my youth, most of our hunting was bird hunting and everyone owned at least one shotgun. Over the years, I owned and shot every well known model of pump gun (and some not so well known), but the one pump gun that fit me the best and shot the best was the good old 870. Shot them in 12, 16 and 20, plain or vent rib barrel, didn't matter. Never had one I couldn't shoot and never had one that gave me any problems.

I packed an 870 bird hunting for alot of miles. Ive also shot alot of clay birds with one. I dont have one anymore but the memories are still there. The older ones are still first class in my book.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
