I've been following this thread with a lot of interest (anything regarding single actions gets my attention). As someone who owns and shoots Uberti Colts in both 357 and 45 Colt, my recommendation is the 45 Colt. Standard 357 mag loads in these trim single actions produces some stout recoil. That's why I usually opt for shooting 38s in these guns and save the 357s for larger revolvers. Standard 45 Colt loads, though, are definitely more pleasant and, of course, you still have the option of shooting the cowboy loads. Just stay away from the hot 45 Colt loads in the Colt clones. Save those for the full size Ruger Blackhawks.

I have several SA's in 45 Colt and they are fun to shoot and load for. For my Henry .44 Carbine I have a Ruger Blackhawk and a Ruger Flattop in .44 Special. Wanted a SA revolver to go along with my newest .357 Henry CCH. My S&W loves those 180 Pugs that shoot well in the Henry but being stainless steel and a double action doesn't quite blend in. I think shooting those 180's will be fine...we will see.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 10:38 amI've been following this thread with a lot of interest (anything regarding single actions gets my attention). Forty, a standard Ruger Blackhawk 357 is actually overbuilt for a 357, but it will handle those 180s, nicely. Also like the adjustable sights for target work. The New Model Vaquero and flat top 357s use a slightly smaller frame, but are still plenty strong for any 357 load.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 1:21 pmI have several SA's in 45 Colt and they are fun to shoot and load for.
