your opinion about S&W 627 pro series

Post by BruniX » Tue Jan 28, 2020 2:01 pm

hello,
is there anyone that own or have tryed S&W revolver 627 pro series 357 Magnum ?

waiting for my aurthorization of detention (may or june), i have seen this handgun
among others and it has in particular the capacity to accept moon clips.
the fact that he has 8 round is not very important to me...

it will be very difficult to choose, i love many others of S&W production :D :
586 , Model 27, 686 deluxe...

i will use it to sport shooting only, and reloading this caliber with molded bullet mainly.

(i love also 45 ACP , but more expensive...here ... powder, brass etc ...)

usually , i will shoot 38 special every weeks, and 357 sometimes.

is there major difference between 627 and other from my wish list ?

see you soon , thanks

BruniX

Not sure I would call it major. But the 627 is bigger and heavier. If it were me and the 8 shot isnt important then I would stay with the 686. It will do everything you need it to do. Its also going to be alot less money.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

The Pro series will have some additional features and/or designs over the standard series, but won't get you the trigger/action job of the PC series. Have owned and shot Smiths from all three series. Doesn't mean you won't get a good trigger on the Pro or even the standard series guns - have had standard series Smiths and Pro series Smiths with great triggers - but going the extra expense of the PC series just guarantees it. You'll do fine with any of them.

Thanks,
BigAl52, North Country Gal ... :D

it is indeed an additional cost which is probably justified only if we really want to have 8 shots

And between a 586 and the splendid model 27?
is there any real difference? 27 is an N Frame, it seems to me ...
heavier but stronger ...?
here in France, the 27 is a little harder to find new, but it's possible ...

What do you think ?

NCG knows far more than I do about Smiths. But Im pretty sure she will agree for what you described that you are going to do with one the 586 or its Stainless version the 686 will do everything you are wanting to do.

I agree with Al. If you don't need 8 shots, I'd go with a 586 or 686 and get one cut for moon clips if that's a feature you want. The 586/686 is really all about the 357. It was designed around the cartridge. There's even 686 versions with 7 shots.
