A couple of new used ones

Post by daytime dave » Sun Jun 23, 2019 9:05 pm

I recently picked up a couple of new used Smith and Wesson revolvers at my new favorite gun store, Woods & Waters. I got a 686-4 with factory ported barrel and a 617-1. Both are 6 inch barrels. I can't wait to shoot them.

Here are some photos I shot at camp.

Flickr was having issues when I was loading trying to share these. Here they are a little bigger. I also had to find out how to share them once the Flickr site was back up to speed, thanks for the push Bob!

Very nice! Had a 686 back in the day, just a fantastic wheelgun.

Flying the colors, too! Nice to see!

Congrats, Dave. As you probably know from some of my posts, the 617 is the bread and butter target 22 LR revolver for us. My hubby and I each have one, setup for the way we want to shoot and shoot as much as we want to shoot without having to share. We both shoot 617s enough to justify each of us having one. In fact, I can't even remember the last trip to the range where we didn't pack Bill's 617. He begins every range session shooting his 617. Can't begin to imagine how many rounds we've shot though that 617 of his and not a single misfire in all those rounds. That gun has paid for itself, many times over.

Nice find Dave...

... I had a six inch 686 way back when, I often used it to put other Marines in their place when the "put up or shut up" game started when the guys were bragging about the contents of their gun boxes. As a young Marine, I was in the sell one to buy one phase, and it was one I let get away.

Good pick ups! I had a 6” 686 for many years and it was a great revolver. I also had a 4” 617 a few years ago which I liked, but it did the same job my M18 does, so I ended up trading it. I think you’re going to be quite happy with that pair!

Not at all, Dave. Your second set of photos looks great.....fine-looking S&W revolvers. Stainless against black grips is my favorite wheel gun appearance. For being used, they don't look at all abused. :)

Looking forward to your range report, and hearing how much you like them!
Thanks much for the re-posting.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
