1873 SA Revolvers

Post by Ozarkridgerunner » Mon Jul 09, 2018 4:41 pm

Howdy from the Ozarks. I am looking for some information on the reproduction Peacemakers. I figure there are several of you folks out there who own and possibly competition shoot. I have been looking online primarily at the Uberti and the Taylor's. I didn't realize until my search that Uberti makes or supplies parts for several of the Taylor's models. I have read where some believe the Taylors have a smoother internal finish on the action and a lighter trigger (?) Is this true on comparing the two from the factory or just the Taylor's that have been tuned by their in house gunsmiths? I have been looking primarily at the cattleman models in .45 LC with 5 1/2 " barrel case hardened frame. I would like a good solid pistol that is tight and functions well with good fit and finish. If the factory triggers are decent I can't really justify extra cost for a tuned model. How much if any difference have y'all experienced between say a factory Taylor's and a Uberti stamped model ? If you had the choice , which would it be ? Appreciate any input anyone might have. Thanks

Taylor's and Cimarron are both licensed importers of Uberti. Mine are from Cimarron. Check out their website as well as Taylor's because each may offer slightly different variations of the 1873. I know Cimarron has several 1873 models in pre-war & old model frames, etc.

Either way, whoever you buy from, Uberti builds a quality revolver from what I can see.

Taylor's doesn't make guns. What you'll be getting is a factory Uberti, gone over by the folks at Taylors. The standard models get some added QC and, on some models, some upgraded parts for durability. The tuned models get an action job and, on some models, cowboy mods to the action.

The standard Uberti 1873s coming straight from Uberti via other importers that I've examined have had good triggers for the most part. Still, I think the extra QC would be worth getting a gun from Taylor's. If nothing else, if you have a problem, you deal with Taylor's, not Uberti. As for the action job, I'd be careful. Have seen some similar Cimarron tuned Uberti 1873s that have had too light a trigger pull for anything but competition. Pound and a half is great for shooting fast in competition, but for general use, I'm more comfortable with three pounds or so. Might want to visit with the folks at Taylor's and let them know just what you do want. They do have a good rep for customer support.
